ysionneauHi, I have a small question about CIP support to linux kernel. I see that 6.1 is CIP SLTS and I see that it seems to be supported by GKH in there: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/log/?h=linux-6.1.y12:59
ysionneauI also see that 6.12 is as well a CIP SLTS13:00
ysionneaubut it seems it will be handled differently this time13:00
ysionneauI'm guessing by someone else, and on another git?13:00
ysionneausame question for the mailing list13:00
patersoncHi ysionneau! CIP currently maintains 5 different SLTS versions - 4.4, 4.19, 5.10, 6.1, 6.12. For 5.10+ they are based on the LTS kernels provided by GKH plus some CIP specific additions. Once the equivalent LTS kernels are no longer supported by GKH the CIP maintainers continue supporting the equivalent SLTS kernel13:29
patersoncAll of the CIP SLTS kernels can be found in this repo: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cip/linux-cip.git/13:30
patersoncSome more info can be found on the CIP wiki here: https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/civilinfrastructureplatform/start#kernel_maintainership13:31
patersoncand here: https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/civilinfrastructureplatform/cipkernelmaintenance13:31
patersoncCIP maintains its own mailing list here: https://lists.cip-project.org/g/cip-dev13:32
ysionneauok thanks13:32
ysionneauso at one point one needs to stop monitoring lore/stable+gkh git and start monitoring the cip-dev+linux-cip13:33
ysionneau(my company is in the process of selecting which kernel to use for the next-version of the product)13:33
ysionneauwe are thinking about 6.12 obviously for now13:34
patersoncIf you're looking to support the same kernel version for longer than the standard LTS, then yes, switching to SLTS would make sense.13:34
patersoncOne thing to bear in mind is that CIP doesn't support the _whole_ kernel. Just the areas agreed upon by the CIP project members.13:34
ysionneauinteresting13:37
* ysionneau reading the wiki now13:42
ysionneaupatersonc: do you have a link to where I can find those areas agreed upon?13:44
patersoncIt's based around kernel configs. These can be found in https://gitlab.com/cip-project/cip-kernel/cip-kernel-config/13:45
patersoncIf you have any specific areas you're interested in or other questions I'd recommend sending an email to the cip-dev mailing list where the CIP kernel maintainers will pick it up.13:45
ysionneauthanks a lot!13:47
