    reviewed it and Vlado will address review comments and do any

  * PR#305 was recently submitted which fixes a race between reconnect()
    and access in statsclient.  Needs to be reviewed.  Dave's comment is
    that it moves the lock to before the connect state check and a
    lockless solution to detect connected status / reconnect failure
